This is a full-time, permanent position (1.0 FTE; min. 40 hours/week)

Qu Biologics (‘Qu’) is a private, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company located in Vancouver, BC, that develops Site Specific Immunomodulators (SSIs) which are designed to restore the body’s normal immune function to reverse the chronic inflammation underlying many conditions including cancer and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD).

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This job posting is for a full-time (1.0 FTE) position. The successful candidate must be a results-oriented “do-er” who is comfortable ‘wearing multiple hats’ and happy to roll up their sleeves and do whatever it takes to get the job done. The successful candidate must understand and embrace the practical realities of a ‘hands on’ entrepreneurial environment. Excellent organizational and project management skills, alongside the ability to interact positively with other team members are absolutely required. This position requires a proven ability to raise substantial funds to support drug development activities in an emerging biotechnology company.
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be responsible for all finance functions, including development, implementation and execution of an appropriate financing strategy to raise $15-30M to fund Qu’s next stage of drug development, investor relations and corporate/securities compliance, budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting and controls, and if appropriate, facility, insurance and IT functions. The CFO will work closely with the leadership team and the Board of Directors, and will report directly to the CEO.

Specific duties and responsibilities will include:
• Lead Qu’s financing strategy in collaboration with the CEO, including a full exploration of all of the financial/funding options available to the company:
o Institutional investors
o Pharma partnerships
o Initial public offering (IPO)
o Private equity from high net worth individuals/family offices
o Non-dilutive funding
• Make compelling presentations to a broad target audience, ranging from angel investors to investment banks, VCs and potential pharma partners. Must be able to clearly articulate the scientific story to the investment community

• Lead the development of the company’s business plan, including working with the CEO and leadership team to prioritize lead SSI drug candidates and SSI development options by leading the forecasting of funding requirements for the clinical plans for each of the lead SSI drug candidates and indications through to the selected strategic outcome (i.e., drug approval and/or pharma partnership)

• Responsibility for all financial and accounting functions, including ensuring that stable, well-developed and secure financial systems and internal controls are in place. Ensure compliance on all tax, reporting, regulatory and financial obligations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• An undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance plus CPA certification. An MBA is an asset.

• Minimum of 10+ years in leadership and all accounting, finance and treasury functions. Proven ability to build, manage and lead an effective and efficient finance organization and high performance team. Practical ‘hands on’ operations experience is highly desirable.

• A proven track record of raising substantial equity investment

• A solid network of contacts with leading investment banks and equity research analysts

• Experience in negotiating and closing major financial transactions

• Team player with executive presence and demeanor coupled with superb written and oral communications and presentation skills

• Flexibility to travel within North America and to Europe as required, to ensure success of financing/partnership activities

DESIRABLE TRAITS AND SKILLS

• A solid base of experience in a private and emerging biotechnology company is desirable, including financial leadership of a biotechnology or pharma company that has developed drugs through to commercialization, including Phase 1, 2 and 3 clinical trials

• Experience as a CFO in a publicly traded company is desirable, with recent (preferably <5 years) exposure to Wall Street, the analyst community and the investment community. Appropriate SEC compliance and reporting experience is preferred since an IPO is one financing option for the company

• Experience navigating the company through a Nasdaq IPO is desirable

• Experience in negotiating and closing pharma partnerships is desirable

COMPENSATION

Salary will be negotiable, depending upon professional profile, qualifications, experience, performance and leadership. The successful candidate will receive a competitive compensation package to include salary, equity participation and a company benefits package.
