This posting is for a full-time (1.0 FTE) position on a 12-month contract to cover an employee on maternity leave.

SUMMARY

Qu Biologics is recruiting a new member to their Preclinical and Translational Research team, to provide technical support in their CL-2 certified laboratories & vivarium. The ideal candidate must be highly organized, have excellent attention to detail and a keen interest in research. Prior animal husbandry experience and an understanding of basic immunology is highly desirable. Get ready to join a high-performance team functioning in an exciting, fast-paced environment!

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This role requires the candidate to work as part of a 6-8 person team in a high-paced research laboratory, under the direct supervision of the Director of Preclinical and Translational Research. The key responsibilities for this role are as follows:

Laboratory Technician for Preclinical Research:

  • Carrying out experimental in vivo mouse models of cancer (lung, skin, breast and colon), inflammatory bowel disease and other inflammatory diseases suitable for evaluating the safety and therapeutic efficacy of Qu’s proprietary Site Specific Immunomodulators (SSIs)
  • Leading specific experiments from conception until completion
  • Performing mammalian cell culture
  • Using standard protocols and procedures to analyze animal & human tissues and samples (including but not limited to: FACS, ELISA, qPCR)
  • Running standard potency assays (both in vivo and in vitro) to support manufacturing

Support the Animal Technician with animal husbandry work when required:

  • A working knowledge of animal related standards, CCAC guidelines and federal, provincial and local requirements (or equivalent) is required
  • Performing technical procedures in mice, such as test article administration via the intravenous (IV), intraperitoneal (IP), subcutaneous (SQ), oral, intradermal (ID) and intranasal (IN) routes; administration, maintenance and monitoring of anesthetics (gas)
  • Experience with tumour implantation (IV, SQ and IP implantation)
  • Performing tissue sampling and blood collection
  • Other required duties will include general monitoring of animal health, weighing and identifying experimental animals

General Lab duties:

  • Performing other facility related procedures, such as the creation and implementation of SOPs, animal care documentation (e.g., animal use protocols), record keeping, report writing and inventory maintenance and ordering
  • Knowledge of the use and handling of hazardous agents such as biological agents, cytotoxic drugs and radionuclides would be an asset.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • BSc in a biological science and one year of relevant experience in an academic or industry setting is required; an MSc and/or two years of relevant experience is preferred;
  • Prior experience working in an animal research facility is required
    • Note: The animal work associated with this position may require (although usually limited) a shifted or non-traditional work schedule to include weekend duties
  • Having a good understanding of molecular biology techniques and immunology
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory procedures and equipment
  • Ability to keep accurate records
  • Well-organized and conscientious

Salary commensurate with experience. A healthcare spending account and share options are available. Three weeks annual vacation.
